POSITION SUMMARY

The Mortgage Loan Officer position is a part of the bank’s mortgage banking department.  The primary responsibility is to originate residential mortgage loans, deepen customer relationships, attract additional customers, and provide excellent customer service.  This position develops and grows our customer relationships through cross-selling and/or referrals that contribute to the profitability of the Bank.  It is responsible for completing business development activities to provide proactive customer service and help attract new customers.  These duties will include soliciting mortgage banking relationships, developing prospect lists, cultivating new relationships, cross-selling appropriate products and services, and other business development tasks as requested by the Mortgage Banking Sales Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

1.      The Mortgage Loan Officer will initiate the mortgage process for potential clients, preparing, analyzing, and verifying mortgage loan applications for the purchase or refinance of real estate.

2.      Meets with and interviews potential and current clients to understand their lending needs including first-time mortgages and refinance of existing loans.

3.      Explains the differences between and approval requirements of various types of mortgages; prepares and presents a lending package based on client specifications.

4.      Assists clients with completion of mortgage applications, inspecting completed documents for accuracy and thoroughness.

5.      Reviews loan applications, gathers credit histories and reports, and assesses applicants’ capacity to repay and default risk.

6.      Based on predetermined requirements, assesses, and grants or rejects mortgage applications.

7.      Views or visits properties for real estate purchase or refinance.

8.      Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the local real estate market; current and predicted lending rates; and changes in rules, regulations, and best practices of various mortgages.

9.      Develops and maintains contacts with local realtors, developers, and builders to promote and encourage the use of bank services for residential mortgages.

10.  Assesses the needs of the customers and determines how to best meet their needs when providing bank products and services.  Cross sells other banking products and services, while taking appropriate action in directly opening new accounts/originating loans.

Education

·         Relevant Mortgage Banking education

·         Bachelor’s Degree preferred

 

Experience

·         Experience in mortgage banking, real estate, or financial services is preferred but will train the right candidate

·         Efficient and professional utilization of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

·         Experience with Finastra Mortgagebot LOS and Fiserv Premier preferred but will train the right candidate

·         Commitment to teamwork and reliable work ethic

·         Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with both customers and other employees

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills

·         Solid accounting and math skills

·         Good organizational skills, to include re-prioritizing day-to-day tasks to accommodate the needs of both customers and co-workers

·         Ability to operate standard office equipment

·         Maintains a high level of bank compliance and regulatory knowledge
