Job Summary
The Laboratory Manager is responsible for all functions of the department: plans, directs, coordinates, evaluates, and manages accurate and timely results within Laboratory requirements and Avera guidelines. Manager will provide care and services in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agencies under the direction of the Director of Ancillary Services.
Essential Job Functions
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of laboratory staffing, instrumentation or disciplines, including but not limited to: managing and coordinating staffing needs to ensure adequate and safe staffing levels, disciplinary actions, supply inventory, quality control, calibration, and reagent preparation.
Assures protocols, procedures, and manuals are reviewed and updated to ensure Laboratory is in compliance with state, CMS, CLIA, COLA, OSHA, CDC, and any other governmental agencies that regulate hospital laboratories.
Responsible for all staff education and annual completion of competencies
Completes hospital reports, logs, surveys, and quality assurance/performance improvement projects as requested and required in an accurate and timely manner.
Will function as a staff MLS when necessary to support patient care and laboratory operations.
Education and Certification
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
A minimum of three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent required.
