Position Summary:

This position is responsible for overseeing custodial employees and the daily custodial duties including routine cleaning and sanitization to ensure the proper physical condition, presentation, cleanliness, safety and sanitization of St. Patrick’s Parish Campus, including the Parish Center and St. Mary’s Elementary and High Schools.

This position will be required to multi-task and manage various facility and ground activities simultaneously and be able to address critical and time-sensitive matters on a high-priority and timely basis. This person would also need to use good judgement in determining when maintenance and construction activities can be best done individually by this position, by parish staff, volunteers or when outside professional help or outsourcing arrangements are needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with others, maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment on the parish and school campus, performing all the necessary maintenance activities (e.g., repairing buildings and equipment, etc.) as assigned to ensure we maintain the proper physical condition, operation, safety, regulatory compliance, and effective and efficient use of our parish facilities and related school grounds.
  • Perform necessary custodial duties such as cleaning floors, disinfecting bathrooms, removing trash, cleaning high touch surfaces in classrooms, offices etc. of St. Patrick’s Parish and St. Mary’s School’s campus.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the heating and cooling management systems.  As well as fire alarms and other security systems. Trouble-shoot as needed.
  • Coordinate maintenance work orders, vendors and ensures the completion of all responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner and update maintenance records as necessary.
  • Supervise and manage other custodial employees.
  • Assign and approve all custodial work schedules to assure all spaces are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Order and secure all needed custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Create and/or process purchase orders for needed supplies and equipment and route reoccurring payables to assure timely payment to vendors.
  • Oversee contractors and assist with snow removal, including shoveling, running snow blowers and applying salt as assigned.
  • Maintain Lawn Care equipment and ensure mowing crews have necessary supplies.
  • Ensure custodial work request orders are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Keep the campus building and grounds litter free, disposing of trash and garbage.
  • Keep equipment rooms, inventory stocks and other workrooms clean and maintained.
  • Follow all safety practices and procedures, especially chemicals, power equipment and biohazard materials.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, reliable attendance and high attention to cleaning and sanitization detail.
  • Provide general assistance as needed regarding setting up and taking down events, hauling and moving items and equipment.
  • Assist with afterhours trouble shooting regarding maintenance issues as necessary.
    Required Education & Experience:
  • Minimum of high school education or equivalency, and three to five years of experience in building and grounds custodial, maintenance, and/or repair activities.
  • Current and valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Basic computer skills.

Essential Skills:

  • Must be able to foster a culture of customer service, collaboration, and Christ-like behavior across all constituencies the facilities management team encounters and must promote and live daily the core values of the parish.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Must be able to undertake various custodial, maintenance and/or construction duties, requiring at times the following physical demands: (i) significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; (ii)some climbing and balancing; (iii)some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and (iv)fine finger dexterity.
  • Must have an attention to detail and be able to identify and perform routine building and grounds custodial, maintenance, and repair activities, quickly spotting when something is not right and needs attention.
  • Must be able to read and interpret custodial and maintenance documentation, manuals, and plans, and to keep required documentation up to date to ensure compliance with internal and external reporting guidelines.
  • Must have basic knowledge of chemicals, supplies and equipment needed to perform job duties.
    Must have organizational skills and workflow experience to manage day-today tasks, while still being able to exhibit flexibility in responding to day-to-day work requirements and varied work schedules, with the ability to ensure critical and time-sensitive facility and grounds matters are addressed on a high-priority and timely basis.
  • Must have a basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, general property management and cleaning/disinfection of surfaces, bathrooms.
  • Must be able to follow policy and safety guidelines.
  • Must have strong teamwork and collaboration skills, working with facilities management colleagues, parish staff, individuals, businesses, volunteers, and clergy.

Hours of Work:

The Custodial Supervisor is an exempt position with regularly scheduled hours which also includes, as necessary, availability during weekend or evening events.
The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for taking calls when on call during evenings and weekends.  (Ensures that they are able to respond in a timely manner.)
