Before Ryan Keoghs’ tragic accident, on May 16th, 2022, he was one of the most professional and dedicated first responders the town of Atkinson had. Ryan was a Firemen and EMT that served in every leadership role in the department, including being the Fire Chief. Ryan embodied the spirit of serving others. He continually sacrificed his time and focus to make Atkinson Fire and Rescue a standard of excellence that other departments could emulate.
Ryan knew the future of Atkinson Fire & Rescue and all rural departments alike, relied on the youth in the surrounding communities. He had a dream of starting a Junior Firemen/EMT cadet program. This program would help educate, train, and excite kids in hopes that someday they would return to any rural town in Nebraska and become active Firemen and First Responders.
Ryans family will be honoring his wish by establishing the Keogh 501 Memorial. This nonprofit organization will purchase gear and radios for Jr. Fireman and cover cost for tuition for them to attend
Fire school and obtain an EMT license through Northeast Community College.
With the assistance of Atkinson Fire and Rescue, The Keogh 501 Memorial will be hosting the 1st Annual Keogh Memorial Golf tournament on Saturday, July 22 at the Atkinson Stuart Country Club at 1 P.M. with a free will donation supper to follow at 6 P.M. There will be a limit of 27 teams, so contact ASCC early at 925-5330 to reserve your place.
Ryans Family would like to stress that this program will not be limited to Atkinson youth, but to any kid with a sincere interest in becoming a first responder. The community of Atkinson continues to show un-waivered support to the Keogh Family, so let’s help them make Ryans dream come true.
