ATKINSON, NE — West Holt Medical Services Foundation is pleased to announce its 2019 fall scholarship recipients. Leighton Mlady and Kassidy Jelinek will each receive $500 towards their degrees in the medical field.
Jelinek is a 2016 graduate of West Holt High School and is currently pursuing a degree in biology at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. Upon graduating in 2020, she plans on furthering her education to become a Physician Assistant.
Jelinek shares, “Through job shadow experiences, employment opportunities, and volunteering, I have had a vast exposure to the medical field. These experiences have strengthened my desire to serve others.”
Mlady is a 2019 graduate of West Holt High School and is working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota. Upon graduating in 2023, Mlady plans to further her education to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
“There is a great shortage of nurses in the United States today, especially in rural areas. I hope to come back to Atkinson or another rural community to begin my nursing career. In a smaller practice you can create stronger relationships with your patients,” shared Mlady.
“Our Foundation is proud to continue supporting local students in their educational endeavors with hopes that they will return to the area to provide much needed healthcare services to our rural communities,” shared Jessica Prussa, Foundation and Marketing Director at West Holt Medical Services.
